Gastroenterology Fellowship
Application Process for July 2011 Positions

The Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Washington has two tracks for fellowship training in Gastroenterology, the Physician-Scientist Pathway and the Clinician-Teacher Pathway. We are also pleased to offer a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Transplant Hepatology, which has its own application process. The below timeline and requirements applies to the Gastroenterology fellowship only.

Positions Available for 2011

Clinician/Teacher Pathway: 3 Positions Available
Physician/Scientist Pathway: NO Positions Available

The 4 available Clinician/Teacher Pathway positions WILL BE part of the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and will be part of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). As such, our timeline for applications will follow that of ERAS and NRMP, which is posted below.

Application Requirements & Details

Please provide all information requested by ERAS, including:

  • At least three letters of recommendation from faculty or professional staff of your medical school or hospitals where you have worked (one of which should include the Chief of Medicine or Residency Program Director in the hospital of your internship and/or residency).
  • Medical School Dean’s letter of reference.
  • Medical School Transcript.
  • USMLE Score Sheets.
The applications deadline was December 31, 2009. All applications are processed through ERAS. No paper applications or supplemental material will be accepted outside of ERAS.

NRMP/ERAS Application Timeline
July 1, 2009 ERAS Post Office opens to fellowship applicants. They can research GI programs and coordinate application materials.
November 15, 2009 Applicants can electronically apply (through ERAS) to programs of their choice.
December 1, 2009 Programs can access ERAS to download applications submitted to them.
December 31, 2009 Application deadline. See application requirements/details above.
January 7, 2010 GI Match opens for on-line registration by programs and applicants.
January 2010 Faculty will review all applications received and make decisions regarding which candidates to invite for interviews at the University of Washington.
February 26, 2010 Fellowship Interview Date

April 8, 2010 The Match Rank Order List (ROL) opens for programs and applicants.
May 31, 2010 ERAS Post Office closes.
June 4, 2010 The Match Rank Order List (ROL) Certifications due from programs and applicants.
June 18, 2010 Match Day! Match results for programs and applicants are posted to the NRMP website at 12 noon Eastern time.

Information For Applicants Holding a VISA

Applicants who are not US citizens, and who do not have US green cards, are welcome to apply, with the realization that we will consider such candidates only if they have outstanding credentials.
