The Research Nurse for the Division of Gastroenterology will provide supervision and maintenance of several research studies and related procedures. Under the direction of Dr. Margaret Shuhart, the Research Nurse will conduct clinical research studies in various liver diseases, with particular focus on multi-center trials for HBV, HCV and HCV/HIV coinfection. The Research Nurse will be responsible for approximately 4-6 research studies at any given time.
The Research Nurse will coordinate all aspects of several ongoing studies including the HMC/UWMC clinical site for a multi-center, NIH-funded Hepatitis B Research Network. This network currently includes a natural history/cohort study and two clinical trials; all are in the stage of active recruitment. There are additional, ongoing industry-funded studies for the treatment of HCV in HIV coinfection including a long-term Registry study. Other, planned studs include investigator-initiated research projects.
The Research Nurse will have primary responsibility for recruiting, consenting and following research subjects enrolled into these studies. This position also requires preparation and maintenance of all IRB documents (applications, consent forms, renewals, and modifications) and Clinical Research Budget and Billing documents. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting up and maintaining study-related services (e.g., lab medicine and pathology) and contracting with outside services (e.g., translations, interpreter services, send-out labs). With regards to the Hepatitis B Research Network, the Research Nurse will provide supervision as needed of study procedures and data collection at UWMC.
