Renuka Bhattacharya, MD

Biography

Dr. Bhattacharya is a hepatologist, caring for patients with liver disease and those requiring liver transplant care. She is the medical director of the University of Washington liver transplant program and a UW assistant professor of medicine. Her interests include the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), liver transplant, hepatitis B and C, autoimmune hepatitis, PSC, PBC, in addition to other acute and chronic liver diseases.

Dr. Bhattacharya is involved in multiple areas of liver-related research, including transplant and liver cancer projects. Dr. Bhattacharya received her undergraduate and medical education at the University of Virginia, and completed internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania. She moved to Seattle in the year 2000 for her fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Washington, completing fellowship in 2003.
 
In addition to clinical duties, Dr. Bhattacharya is medical director of the liver transplant program, and is involved in liver transplant policy on a local, regional and national level. She also enjoys her role as an educator, responsible for the training of residents and fellows, and serves as the program director for the Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program.
