Biography

Dr. Dominitz is a gastroenterologist with a strong clinical interest in colorectal cancer screening and improving the quality of colonoscopy. His education and training include a B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University in 1986, an M.D. from the University of Maryland in 1991, residency in internal medicine at Duke University in 1994 and fellowship in gastroenterology at Duke University in 1997. He also completed a fellowship in health services research at the Durham VA Medical Center in North Carolina. During his career, Dr. Dominitz has gained a national reputation for his work in colorectal cancer screening. He is a prolific researcher with over 80 peer-reviewed publications. He has also published dozens of guidelines on the clinical practice of gastroenterology. Many of these guidelines come from his eight years serving on the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy’s Standards of Practice Committee (3 years as committee chair). He is currently a member of the U.S. Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer.

Dr. Dominitz is currently professor of medicine with over 18 years of clinical experience. He is also the national director of gastroenterology for the Veterans Health Administration and is the gastroenterology section chief of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. He serves on numerous professional organization committees and is a senior associate editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
