Margaret C. Shuhart, MD, MS
Professor Emeritus
Biography
Dr. Shuhart is the medical director of the Hepatitis and Liver Clinic at Harborview Medical Center and a UW professor of medicine in the Gastroenterology Division. She practices general hepatology and is an expert in viral hepatitis, including HIV co-infection with hepatitis C or B. Dr. Shuhart also conducts research in the natural history and treatment of hepatitis B, and the treatment of hepatitis C.
 
Dr. Shuhart earned her bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College and her M.D. from Dartmouth Medical School. She came to the University of Washington for  the GI and hepatology fellowship training and joined the faculty in 1994. In 2003, she earned a master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Washington.
 
Dr. Shuhart is board certified in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. She is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and has served as chair of their practice guidelines committee, overseeing the development of national guidelines for clinical care She is also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Gastroenterology.
